Yet another bogging Q-Jet... (Loooong post, sorry in advance ;)
Yet another bogging Q-Jet... (Loooong post, sorry in advance ;)
First of all, I did search the archives and wrote down most of it to try on my car. However, I don't really know if any of it apples to me...
The car and carb:
'87 Trans Am LG4 4bbl Rochester Quad Jet E4ME - Everything stock except engine (previous owner rebuild) and of course the flowmaster exhaust.
The bogging started AFTER I decided to change the fuel filter by the carb. It was a dark orange-brownish color and had some sticky goop all over it, so at the time I thought I was doing something good.
Anyway, I replaced the filter and put everything back together only to find out that there is a leak at the fuel inlet nut. The threads were completely stripped.
$70 and 3 trips to the carb shop later the leak was finally fixed (and carb opened up and cleaned). They took out the filter and gave me one to put outside of the carb, which I did.
Finally to my problem: My car bogs now pretty much at any RPM and temp. It bogs way more at low RPMs (I'd say below 1000, but I'm not completely sure.)
At every light I have to press on the gas as if there was an egg between my foot and the pedal, otherwise it bogs down right away for about 1-2 seconds, then pulls like normal. I have several more examples but this post is long enough as it is...
Any ideas? It needs to be smogged in Dec. and I have a hard time believing that it will pass...
Thanks guys

Here in Indiana it only cost $18.99 to rebuild a Q-Jet carb. I got my pricing from the local auto zone. That may be all thats needs. Also make sure the secondaries arn't opening up to soon.

Sounds like the accelorator pump is not pumping fuel out the squirters at all, on acceloration. Remove the air-cleaner lid and
look down the primary venturi and open the throttle (with the motor off). You should see fuel squirt down into the venturi. If not
something is wrong with the pump. (part missing, broken etc.) Get a new mechanic.

you know, when my choke was acting up this would always happen, the bogging off of the line. After it was adjusted correctly that wasnt the case anymore.
