Jet performance quadrajet

Has anyone else seen these carbs in the summit catalogs? Theres three different stages and they are direct replacements, 50 state smog legal. They were no more then 400 dollars a piece, wouldnt that be a good idea to buy then to have the old tired qjet rebuilt? im thinking of getting the stage 2, can anyone fill me in on these carbs? thanks

I hear they're quite good. Two years ago Hot Rod had a guy building an 83 Trans Am with a 385 stroker and one of those carbs. He said it ran great. Also, Car Craft(I think) used a non CC version on a Buick engine and said it was the best Q-jet they'd ever run. Id buy one if I needed a carb.

Careful. They are NOT CC carbs.

You can send your carb to Jet and have them do a Stage 2 on it. They'll fix whatever is making yours tired and old. Takes about a week from what they told me (haven't done it, though).

The Hot Rod articles to which Muscle refers are on this board in the magazine articles link. By Steve Green, called "Stroke in the Desert". Good reading.

They went from something like 12 mpg to 17, too. You gotta like that!

When my current 383 was at the planning stages I thought about going with a jet performance q-jet but decided to go with a Holley carb instead. Also my main reason for not going with a CC q-jet was it would not be able to quench the thirst of a motor making above 400HP.

What are your mods and what are your future plans (if any)for your engine?

I don't know about the cc Qjet, but any 750cfm carb can handle 400 hp, with ease.

Not just any 750cfm carb would do the trick it would actually have to be tuned for the specific engine . I have seen 750 cfm carbs not even able to handle 300Hp because lack of tuning!
