volt light stays on

i have an 84 camaro and the volt and the choke lights stay on. the choke light goes out when you build up rpms. the volt light is always on and the headlights always stay bright. could it be the alternator??

Volt light? Do you have the idiot light cluster with the speedometer-sized fuel gauge? My car doesn't have a volt light...

At any rate, yes, it sounds like the alt is going.

Take it to Autozone and have them test it. They can test it on the car, or off the car.
