What is a divorced choke?

What is a divorced choke?

Hey guys, I'm new to carbs....I know what an electric choke is, but what is a divorced choke? Thanks for any info.

If I recall correctly, a divorced choke is where the choke element is in or on the intake manifold itself getting heat from the cross-over, and has a linkage piece that connects to the carb. Whereas the other choke (not divorced, still married??!!) draws heat from the intake via a tube and the choke element is attached to the carb itself with no external linkage for the choke action.

I think that's right, any other takers??
