Performer Intake Installation

Hey all, I was just curious about the installation of an Edelbrock Performer intake #3706. It has the EGR setup to replace my factory stock intake. I wanted to know if there are any tips that any one can offer or advice on the task at hand. I will have another guy helping me out that has done the job before, but he doesn't know about the carb setups. I can take my carb off and install it on the new intake, that shouldn't be a problem. Do I need to get a new kick-down cable bracket, or can I reuse the old factory stock one that is on the manifold now? I can get the Holley bracket for the 700r4, but they aren't cheap. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

All you should need are gaskets and gasket sealer. Everything else should transfer from one to the other.

I like to use a bead of silicone instead of the end gaskets, but that's a personal preference.

It's typically a good idea to clean the outside of the engine at a car wash before taking things apart. With all of the "stuff" down in there, it's a little hard to do, but still beneficial. Take the air cleaner off and cover the carb while you do this.

Have an old towel or some other large piece of fabric to place over the lifter valley while you scrape off the old gasket from the heads. After you get it back together, change the oil after you run it for a few minutes to get rid of any dirt you may have introduced while the engine was open.

BTDT. What he said. I use duct tape and newspaper as a dirt shield.

The bracket will transfer over, no problem.

Get yourself a new water outlet and some stainless steel bolts for it before you start, instead of having to stop right in the middle of the job when you discover you can't get the old one off and break the bolts trying like everybody else. DO NOT get a chrome one, unless you enjoy leaks; they act as a "sacrificial anode" because they're actually cast out of chinesium (cheap zinc), and get huge holes eaten in them from the inside by electrolysis.

Read every post on this board about distributor installation, or any other variations of the "just put the dist back in now it won't start" posts that you can find, before you re-install it.
