I am pretty sure in 85 and 86 the base IROC motor was the 305 HO and the TPI was an upgrade. It should have come stock with the same carb as any other LG4

The base engine for IROCs in 85 & 86 was the LG4. The HO and TPI motors were optional.
It had a computer-controlled QuadraJet.
Not a whole lot of just general "info" on the subject comes to mind..... what would you like to know about it?

I still love GM and its HO 305. Is that a oxymoron or what. No wonder stock Mustangs always walked the dog on us.! I always wondered why 3rd gens never came with 4.3 V6's, until I realized they would have been faster than the Vettes of the day. You cannot outrun your flagship model sportscar! What if the Taurus outran the Mustang? So instead of making the Vettes faster, they just keep our cars down. Thank *** that cahnged with the LT1's and LS1's!

Carb'd IROC'S in England
85 and 86 IROC's were standard fitted with a carb, aside from small differances such as rear end ratio, the driveline was the same as the Sport Coupe, the main differances were suspension and cosmetic.
I dont know how it affects you guys in the states, but over here in blighty the Sport Coupe sits a couple of insurance groups lower than the iroc, a worthwhile saving. 4 of my mates have third gens and we have all driven each others cars. Everyone agrees that for the younger (under 25) driver such as myself the Sport Coupe is the one to go for.
Experience shows the carb is more reliable and idles better too, with the same fuel milage.
another cautionary word, 3rd gens are quite plentifull over here but i looked at about four before i bought my 5.0 sport coupe. One of the cars i looked at was a tired 305 RS with the 190 bhp TPI lump. DIY window tints and faded paint confirmed my fears, it was hardly any quicker than a cherry V6 I looked at, and both were slower than my 305 Sport Coupe. a knackerd TPI is not worth having over a good carb'd car.

If you really want to get technical the model is E4ME. Then you get into service numbers for which carb you have. What year, which engine, automatic or manual transmission, federal, California or Canadian emissions, etc etc... I went through this when I got a new carb from GM for my '84 L69 in Feb. '97. At the time there were FOUR left in the U.S. Yes it was expensive but worth every penny.
