im thinking about buying a 84 Berlinetta with a great body and 77,000 k summer only usage i believe it has a lg4 engine what can i do to improve this weak performer also is this a good buy at $ 2500. Also want to know what the compression is on the heads 58cc? -The Chad

For that much money, it should be pretty much flawless.

The compression of that engine, if original, would be 8.6:1. That year had dished pistons, which lowers the static compression, even with the small 58cc chambers.

The performance-robbers of the LG4 are: single snorkel air cleaner; 2" exhaust; cast iron exhaust manifolds; lame camshaft; carb secondary air valves that don't open all the way (not true for all of them, though - check the tech articles for details); stock HEI coil and module; heads; dished pistons. In that order.

You would also need to know the rear gear ratio, which should be 3.08, but maybe not. Taller gears and a higher stalling torque converter (after modifying the above) would also improve performance.
