fuel press

i am running a 600 edelbrock carb on a stock 350. i have the fuel press set at 9-10 psi, and the car runs great. problem being several people have told me that the carb will flood with this much press. ??????? seems to run best at this press. any unforseen problems with leaving it at this press?????

If you can tell a difference in the way it runs by changing fuel pressure, you don't have the floats adjusted properly, or it isn't jetted correctly.

The concept with a carb is that pressure is only needed to keep the fuel bowl at the proper level at all times. If raising the pressure changes the way it runs, it is changing the fuel bowl level (by requiring the floats to push up harder on the needle to stop the fuel flow). This is not good.

The carb should be tuned to run properly under all conditions with the fuel at the proper level. As the needle and seat wear over time, the likelihood of flooding will increase if the pressure is too high.

Set the pressure at 4-6 psi, and tune accordingly.
