I'd say the easiest things to do are
1) grind down any casting in the venturies
2)Make sure your secondaries are opening at 90 deg.
3)Drill out your idle ports a little.
Also take your time figuring out which primary jets and metering rods to use. Trust me on this its not fun taking it apart over and over to try different combos.

This is a CC q-jet. I don't think you want to be drilling idle passages on it.
Adjust the secondary throttle blades to open all the way when the primaries are completely open (and make sure neither goes beyond 90 degrees). Get the adjustment tools suggested in the q-jet tech article and do those adjustments per the book.
