Q-Jet choke problem...I Think...

For the past 2 weeks, when I've gone home for the weekends and have tried to start my car when it is cold, I push the pedal to the floor foe a sec to set the choke and then start the car. It starts fine, but runs AWFUL while (I'm guessing) the choke is on...it smells like gas badly and the car feels like it is going to stall...the RPM's are around 500 and it almost seems like it is firing on less than all 8 cylinders. If i step on the pedal, I have to push it a decent amount to see any increase in RPM's and it still sounds awful.

As soon as I get the car in drive and start driving and the choke shuts off, the car runs great...its only in the mornings when I first start it. This leads me to believe that something is wrong with the choke.

Before 2 weeks ago, the choke worked fine...the car would idle up to around 2500 RPM and then slowly back down to idle speed, and then all of a sudden, one day it decided it didn't wanna work right anymore? I have not been able to look to see if the choke is engaging or not, but what could be another issue that would cause this to happen? I would like to try to get it resolved next weekend.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like the choke pull-off diaphragm has failed. It's a vacuum thing at the right front of the carb.

My dad just called me to say that he disconnected the electrical connector that connects to the choke housing cover and said that the car now starts fine and the choke is working...

How can this be and is this hurting anything???

Choke

The electric connector sends to the bimetal (choke) the voltage from alternator (so this is after it have just start) wich is about 14volts, the choke heats up with that volts... amp actualy, then it will slowly open the little plate on the carb (where the primary).
*By disconnecting it, the choke stay close no mater how hot your car is. by having the plate close, less air and lots of gas, rich is good for cold start.

Diconnecting makes the choke NOT opening... sur if it's open and your car is cold, it will idle rough.
