Carb in a FI car
Carb in a FI car
I have a 91 camaro without an engine (friend bought car for engine, I pulled it, kept car). I'm going to be putting in a carbed engine. It has an edelbrock performer carb and intake (I'm guessing its a 650cfm).
Anyways, I'm not positive on how to hook it up. The stock engine was FI so there is a fuel pump I'm not sure about and two fuel lines in the engine compartment I'm not sure about. My engine has a mechanical pump. Whats the best way to go about getting this connected? I've been told that the FI system wont directly work because of too much pressure. Should I use the mechanical pump or switch to an electric one? Do I need to bypass the stock fuel pump? Etc.
Thanks for any help!!

You should remove the stock intank pump and replace it with a pickup or a piece of hose.
The thicker of the two lines in the engine bay is the delivery line. Hook you pump up to that, and just plug the other one unless your pump has a provision for a return line.

OR if you dont feel comfortable doing all that simply install a fuel pressure regulator to regulate the high psi FI pump down to carb-friendly psi. I've been running like this for about a year and have no problems ...although I am going to redo my fuel system very soon.

5-7psi will generally keep any carb happy. You'll need a Mallory 3-port return style regulator if you want to use my method.

The part number for the Mallory 3-port is #4309 or if you are looking it up on Summits site it is MAA-4309
