choke won't open right. Help

I just had my carb rebuilt by jet . It seems my choke stays shut all the way then only opens a little. I think it just needs to open up more and it will be fine. how do i adjust this?

Thanks
Dave

1st, make sure it has 12V going up to the choke thermostat when the ignition is on.

Next, the choke should open up slightly when first started via the choke pull-off. That is a vacuum device that is adjustable by a small screw on the linkage. That probably isn't your problem, though.

As the engine warms up, the thermostat should slowly open the butterfly (like over a 5 minute period). The throttle has to be blipped to get the idle to come down, though.

There's a screw on the arm of the choke pull off (the vacuum canister on the pass. side of the carb). This affects how far the choke opens immediately after startup. Turn it clockwise to make it open less (richer), CCW to open more (leaner).

I tried adjusting the screw on the choke pull off that did nothing for cold start up. my choke is still to closed when i start it cold. It opens fully when warmed up and runs great. but, on cold start up it is almost fully closed. I want to file off the tab on the plastic choke thermostat cover and adjust it that way. but, I don,t want to screw up my carb. if there is another way to adjust it. I hope i'm making sense, there is a tab on the thermostat housing that does not allow it to turn. on any other electric choke you just turn that housing and it opens up more. any one ever do this???

the car runs so good with the new chip and stage 2 rebuild from Jet on the carb. now if i can just get this small choke problem down. it is really stinky with fuel on cold starts. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

I also just wanted to add that i live in california and even with all my mods the car passed smog. the mechanic told me it ran cleaner than most cars he sees. I did have to reinstall the stock air cleaner assembly. but that was it. my next upgrade will be the rear gears going to 4:10 to match the 6 speed. then, it will be either nitrous or maybe a new strokker and forget the smog.
