Is there a simple way to restore the gold irridite finish on plated parts like the carb linkage, etc.?

 

Eastwood sells a matching spray paint. They might also sell actual chemical dip that does it..I'm not sure.

 

Thanks, I'll check it out. I had to resort to Naval Jelly to clean up the linkage on a particularly nasty old carb and it took the cadmium right off in some spots.

 

"Gold iridite" is actually zinc chromate.... the part is lightly zinc plated, then dipped in chromic acid... pretty hard to duplicate at home.

I used to use a plating company at work to do that to our products; I would just include them in a batch of stuff, which they charged us by the pound for, like about $.05/lb or something. We would get stuff done by the pallet load, usually lots of pallets at once. Call the plating companies in your area and see what they'll do. They might accumulate small stuff from people and once in a while dip them as a batch, for a reasonable fee.

Unfortunately it requires complete disassembly of the parts in most cases.
