TBI to Carb
TBI to Carb
Hello everyone. I am new to this board and need help on a few questions. Alright, I have a stock 350 in my car (swapped out of a 92 Z28) and my TBI isn't flowing enough air so for cost purposes so I decided to go carb. Well, a local speed shop around here just did this swap and said that all I really need to do is get the mallory fuel regulator, the carb, and the intake manifold. After going through these boards though everyone else is saying you have to change distributors. Do you really have to do this and if so why? I was looking to do this over Christmas Break, so any advice would be very useful. Thanks.

You have to have a vaccum advance distributor because you will not be using the computer any more. The computer controls the spark advance to the distributor you have now.
You will have to change to the HEI vacuum advance distributor. You can leave the intank fuel pump and just regulate the fuel down to 6-7psi but I think it is best to switch to a mech fuel pump or an externaly electric pump for a carb car. The intank pump was not designed to run a 6-7psi. Just my $.02
Hey I just got done doin' almost the same to my 90. Definately need an HEI with vac. adv. I found mine on EBAY for $31....talk about a great deal!! Other than that it's not hard. plan on the whole weekend for it just incase somethin' happens. Oh, and don't try cutting the harness, it just causes a huge mess ( currently the speedo only works when the headlights are off, and I have no gas gauge. not to mention the only gauge on the dash that works is the voltmeter. good thing they sell aftermarket crud.) Anyway good luck and have fun converting, it'll be fun when the engine breathes enough to get you scootin'
