non-cc idle problem -- dies
The motor warms up on fast idle fine but after choke and FI disengages the normal Idle circuit kills the motor after idling for a while.
like if I sit at a light in drive the idle will progressively get lower and lower until it dies. and If I give it gas while its on its way down it automatically kills it. I have to kind of pump the throttle real quick to get it out of this downward spiral so I can get the thing going again.
when it used to Idle well I had the rpms set at 700 in drive and about1100 in park/neutral. and this just started lately.
I tried to adjust the idle mixture but it didnt do anything and Im lost as to wether its actually rich and loading up with fuel or lean and dying (sounds like the former though -- right?)

ok now I did it...
I broke part of the accelerator pump link off and had to rebend it lower down to have one at all...
but that was just the last thing to happen in a string of frustrations that have been going on for the past 3 months...
I am sick of guessing with this thing!!!
I want a new carb
I want a simpler carb that responds predictably to changes.
with this thing it runs ok for awhile and then starts idling poorly or boging and its never the same thing twice.
I adjust mixture screws, pump shot, air valve spring, vacuum breaks but I have never gotten it to run well. I always followed the books I have to adjust things but they dont respond the way they should.
would a holley be easyer to tune??
What about an edlebrock?
I dont care I just want my motor to run consistently
I am going home for christmas on the 20th and I need to do one of two things by then so I can get there without being stranded on some section of the 90 like this thing almost did to me about a month ago...
1. rebuild this carb so it runs right
2. buy a carb that runs right.
