I have a question regarding my choke. i.e. how to clean or replace? When it is cold out side, my car idles high, around 1500 RPM. It will idle down to about 1000 RPM on it's own. When I get in the car to go, If i give it gas, after it has idled down to 1K, It will finally idle about 500 RPM. Is this normal or do I need to clean or replace the choke?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

That's exactly what it's designed to do, except that your hot idle RPM is a bit low.

Cleaning never hurts; but it doesn't sound to me like there's anything that needs repair about it.

 

Im having a similar problem with my 84 lg4. Cold idle seems high and hot idle is too low. Is there a way to adjust the hot idle speed up a few hundred rpm?

 

Little screw on the side of the carb that the throttle linkage comes to rest against...

 

Hey man it sound like you just need to take you carb offand take it appart and just clean the choke. It happened to me everyone and a while but that all I usually do.
