what size spacer should i have?
i have an edelbrock 600cfm electric choke and i have a pretty big spacer under it and i think that the spacer is either for a quadrajet or its just a big square one that is just open instead of the 4 holes. is it true that you get more hp with a spacer? it just doesnt seem to run right even after a complete tune up and the carb being set by a machine so that its perfect. i think this is the reason why, so what do i need to make it work right? how tall of a spavcer? it should have the 4 holes in it right? thanks

"Generally speaking":
Open spacers improve high RPM power; i.e., move power band up in RPM range.
4-hole spacer improve low RPM torque; i.e., move power band down in RPM range.
However, there are no "garantees" a spacer of one type or the other will do what is said above. Depending upon the rest of the "package", a spacer could ruin the way the pieces work together. It's more of a trial & error process to see what spacer, if any at all, produces the results you're looking for.

Wish this post had more replies
I have the 600cfm, 1406 too. Car had a 1" approx. spacer on it when I bought it. Not sure if it is a 4 hole or 1 hole. My car has the same off-idle bogginess. Not sure if this is because of the spacer, or something else.
What the spacer has done to my car is eliminate hood clearance. I have to run a 14" by only 2.25" air cleaner in order to fit.
I don't know if it would be better to go without the spacer, and a 14" by 3" k&n, or leave the spacer, and stay w/ 2.25"
What I really want is the spacer, 3" k&n, & cowl ind.
Any suggestions on spacer & 2.25" vs. 3" w/o spacer?????

i have a 14x3 inch on mine but you have to get a recessed base air cleaner so that it receses a little over the carb and it fits great.

How big is your spacer?
I have the 14" Mr. Gasket air cleaner. It is recessed a little, but my bro's chevelle is recessed more, and it doesn't clear choke, throttle, stuff like that.
What do you think will floww more air in though?
1. spacer with 2.25" height air filter.
2. No spacer and 3" filter
Assuming same filter.

my spacer is pretty big, probably like 1 1/2 inch to 2 inch and my air cleaner is recessed alot but it has places where the throttle linkage fits and for the choke all i did was took a baltine hammer and dimpled it a little so that it would fit over it. works great so far, i got it off ebay brand new with filter and everything for 16 bucks.

What type is it? Or if not sure, about how far is it recessed?
Do those dimple restrict flow, or did they only need to be very small?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2416316630 look at that, its a guy who sells them i think, i used to have like a 10x 2 1/2 inch air filter and it was WAY restrictive. this one works greay and it goes over everything and has a place for the linkage to fit under. then to make it fit perfect just dimple in a little place above the electric choke to fit that little black ground wire under it w/out smashing it. guy was really nice and shipped very fast.
