Hard to start, stumbles on acceleration
Hard to start, stumbles on acceleration
You have to forgive me, this is the first carburated vehicle I've owned. It's an '86, with 305, 87K miles. In the morning, I have to give it gas to start, and keep giving it constant gas for about two minutes. Otherwise, it'll stall on me. Then, when I put it in drive and go, it immediately bogs down when I give it 1/4 throttle, takes a second or two to open up, then goes on. It'll do this for about 2-3 stops. Once I run it down the road a little bit, the problem goes away, and it'll idle and drive normally, with only a slight bogging on 1/2 throttle.
I'm just not sure where the problem is or how to check, or even if this is just the normal operation of a carb'd vehicle. It still runs nice after it warms up for awhile (I have a 40 mile commute each way), and gets 24mpg.
