why is my gas milage getting worse?

i have a 79 chevy truck 350 in my car. i also have an edelbrock 600 cfm electric choke carb and headers. my milage has been pretty descent. my carb and timing was set by a professional gm mechanic i know. i also put on new plugs and wires a couple months ago. and i adjusted my valves and then my gas milage just went way down. so i re adjusted them and it seems to be even worse. i was told adjusting my valves wouldnt effect my gas milage that bad so the only other thing i can think of is my carb?? what would cause my gas milage to get soo much worse? what should i check? thanks alot

Check for things you disturbed during the valve adjustment - vacuum lines, spark plug wires, etc.
