popping under load...real loud

popping under load...real loud

for some odd reason this holley 750vs started popping, then stumbling under load from 1500 then smooth out and pop more at 3000rpms...what the hell?...idles a lil weird and is running rich....power valve?

The popping is a backfire. Does it sound like it is coming from the engine (carburetor) or the exhaust?

it sounds like the exhaust but some times it sounds like its from the engine

Mine did that and it turned out my Dad put in 87 octane. Put in 93 and it went away. Also it could be that the timing is too far advanced.
