stalls when turn off

My car runs fine, but when I turn off my key, the car somewhat hesitates for a sec. and tries to keep firing but then sounds like it stalls and dies. I'm not sure if I am explaining this right but what could be doing this. Too much gas? Idle to high? Thanks in advance.

What does you're RPM gauge read when you're at idle? I'm assuming you have a CARB right? Lower you're idle to 750 RPM, and you should be fine....

But for now, if you're unsure on how to do it.... just keep you're car in gear, then turn the key off. If you have a stick, you'll have to lower the RPM as soon as you can.

Be sure to turn off the A/C before turning off the engine. When the A/C is on, the "throttle kicker soleniod" will hold the throttle open.

most often its either ignition timing too advanced, or idle speed set too high.

i have also heard of excess carbon holding heat in the chamber, and causing it, try the other two, and if they dont work, take a mustard bottle full of cold water, and SLOWLY pour it down your carburator while the car is running, the water will react with the carbon and break it up, and blow it out the exhaust.
