choke adjustment

Hey,
I'm kinda new to holley carbs, so please help me out with something. The electric choke was hooked up wrong on my holley 4160, so I thought I got it connected correctly (The linkage was jamming against the fast idle cam). Now, when I start the car the choke comes on and the fast idle kicks in just fine, but if I bump the throttle at all, the choke pops off and the fast idle turns off. If I don't bump the throttle, the choke slowly cuts off like normal. I think I have the linkages hooked up correctly, could anything else be causing this problem?

When you bump the throttle, a rush of air hits the choke plate and opens it. What you describe is normal. The holley electric choke system doesn't work quite as nice as a q-jet. If you think the choke is coming off too early, adjust it richer(loosen the 3 screws and rotate. Don't go too far or it will 'load up' and flood.

Yeah, when I turn it richer the butterfly is closed too much and it runs far too rich. I think it might be time to go w/ a manual choke

How does it run when the choke kicks off? If it still runs OK, I'd just leave it alone.
