need carb advice
well im debating as to fix my electric choke on my stock 4 bbl or just buy a new carb, one that will work on my 305 w/ stock heads, no ECM ,w/ headers and stock cam, intake etc...
I plan to do a cam replacement when i can im just so fed up with my carb now, i had it fixed or so i thought and now the dang thing is actin up again...i believe its the choke, my idle rpms are almost zero and the car stalls, black smoke comin out th pipes. I have to manually hold the choke plate open till it stays open on its own.
Now, are street avengers any good? I hear they have all the vacuum lines and such to hook up to stock motor? also they arent too expenisve so...
also, i checked the wire that connects to the choke and i do get an electrical signal but i dont know if the choke is working or if its something else....i dont wanna keep takin her to the shop to have the refix it or whatever they did to it, its frustrating.

If you still have a stock intake manifold, you'll need an adapter to fit a square-bore carb on it, or replace it with one that accomodates a square-bore (Performers and Action + manifolds will mount either square- or spread-bore).
I'd much rather spend <$50 to fix a choke than what it will take to replace a carb.

Well considering your getting a cam, it probably means your gonna get some other stuff, so IMHO I would get a second carb. Now I would rather pay the $50 too,
but it depends on what your gonna do.

FIRST U SHOULD ANSWER A FEW QUESTIONS...WHY IS THE CAR ACTING UP? THE ANSWER IS THE STOCK CARB ITH NO ECM...THE CARB IS COMPUTER CONTROLLED AND IF THE WIRRING IS NOT HOOKED UP CORRECTLY THE CAR SHOULDNT RUN VERY WELL, WHICH IT SOUNDS LIKE IT ISNT. ALSO THE BLACK SMOKE IS BECAUSE YOUR RUNNING TO RICH. DO U HAVE O2 SENSORS IN THE HEADERS? IF NOT THAT COULD BE ANOTHER REASON FOR THE CAR RUNNING WEIRD...THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM IS EITHER HOOK THE ECM BACK, ESPECIALLY IF YOUR ALL STOCK EXCEPT FOR HEADERS...THE CAR WILL RUN W/O THE AIR PUMP FOR THE ARI TUBES, SO IF THATS Y U TOOK THE ECM OFF...DOTN WORRY BOUT IT...OR U CAN GO WITH AN AFTER MARKET CARB, BUT THEN U ALSO HAVE TO CHANGE THE DISTRIBUTOR...SO JUST THINK COST...AND WHAT IS BEST FOR U
