idle

this ones got me stumped. after setting the timing to 12 degrees btdc and hooking the vaccume hose to the timed port on my eddy, the rpms jump about 500 rpms but i cant idle the carb any lower. any suggestions?

If you mean the idle jumps up 500 rpm more after you hook up the vacuum advance then that sounds like your timed port is pulling vacuum at idle. If you find that it has vacuum at idle, your primaries are probably open too far. backing off the idle speed screw some to close the primaries some, then open your secondaries up slightly to make up for it. Sorry but I have no idea how to do this on an Edelbrock carb

Make sure your throttle cable or return spring are not in a bind. That could cause the throttle plates to be open. Also does the carb have elec choke?
