1987 Firebird Carb Upgrade
Ok I have been looking for a carb upgrade for my 87 and someone at jeg's said that edelbrock and holly do not make anything that will work on a computer controled car. He then said even edelbrock's quadra jet series would not work in the car.
So I guess the question would be, what are the advantages of a computer controled carb? What risks do I run if I dont get a computer controled carb? And if I decided to get one that does not use a computer what would be the best one to get?

I think other than *possibly* needing a new distributor, the only problem you'll have with a non-cc carb is tuning it, and figuring out where to tuck the old carb wires at.

The advantages include: It's the only fully emissions-legal setup for an '87 with carb; since it's a feed-back system, it adjusts itself to the best fuel economy under varying conditions (except when the secondaries are employed, of course).
Going to a non-CC carb will require replacing the distributor with a vacuum-mechanical advance type, and providing some means of locking the torque converter clutch (the ECM will not do that if it isn't getting info from the carb & distributor).
