Governor Removal ?
Got another question about carbs......
The guy i got the firebird from (83 Bird 305 S/E) said that when he got the car it was too slow. So he took off (removed) the governor... Its has a quadrajet, and i am wondering if he is full of s*ht or if he acctually did it, if its possible at all to do. He was an auto mechanic with two 68 RS Camaros he was pro-streeting. So he seemed preety trust worthy. Is there anyway i can tell ?

Governors and for garden tractors and farm machinery. No governor on the Camaro.
Now the 83 LG-4 motor was a SLUG off the showroom floor so it doesn't surprise me if he did a few "modifications" to the carb, bumped up the timing, and other easy stuff to get a little more out of it, but there was never a governor on it.
He may be referring to the secondary air valve that is often incapable of opening the full 85-90* from the factory- preventing full airflow potential from the carb. This can be fixed by filing down the stop and allowing full opening. However, on the low-output LG-4 (145HP) it's not going to make a very big difference anyway.
