workin on a qjet (needed to post some pics for help)

a quadrajet i just started to rebuild tonight. figured i'd post some pics. these are actually "after" shots from about 15 min of scrubbing already. i thought the thing was copper colored when i got it. wow, did that change. now everything's soaking and getting ready to be upgraded. cant get my holley's vacuum secondaries to open (no clue why), so giving this one a shot seeing as it was a freebie....

I've got a couple of those carbs in my garage, the divorced choke needs to have the intake with the bi-metal spring (thermostat)built in to it to work.I don't think you can retro fit a later style electric choke to it either. On the plus side,i used a quadrajet on my car for years that had no choke at all(summer car)and had no drivability problems, even into the cool weather(i put her away in November..)If you run all year though,i'd look into getting your Holley fixed.

Why not just run a choke line to the driver's seat? It's easier than you would think.

i'm just gonna do the manifold choke (thats what its supposed to be). i wasnt gonna try to retrofit anything up, i was just mostly posting pics for someone on the board who was helping me out. i believe its the second type of q-jet, due to its carb number starting with a "1" and not a "7". planning on picking up new rods, hanger, and jets. hopefully i can have this thing workin better than the holley sitting on the engine now....
