QJet selection
I am seriously considering replacing my computer controlled QJet with a regular one and getting an older HEI non-computer controlled distributor. Anyone have any recommendations as to where to find an older style QJet that will fit my 1984 Firebird (305 V8) manifold and still hook right up to my stock linkages? Thanks for any insights.

Just in case we might need to protect you from yourself, why are you considering doing it?

In general I like the older systems as I grew up with them and understand them much better. Easier to tune and diagnose. My current project car has seen some real abuse to the original equipment by the previous owner. It is a real nightmare trying to figure out all the "modifications" he has made to the original wiring. It seems simpler and easier to just replace the carb and distributor with something that I am more familiar with and comfortable with working on. It certainly can't run any worse that it does right now. I'm just a throw-back to the 60's.

Well, things have changed here in carb land. The old carb finally gave up the ghost. Fouled plugs and leaking like crazy all of a sudden. Since I needed this thing up and running to take it for a trans rebuild, I decided to just buy a stock QJet for now. After some quality time with the GM shop manual, I managed to get the wiring and connector problems caused by the previous owner fixed (at least I think they are fixed). Surprisingly enough the rebuilt CC carb actually ran and did fairly well after finding all the little "modifications" from the previous owner. I may still replace it with an Edelbrock and non-CC distributor, but it was quite amazing how well it ran with the stock rebuilt carb. Maybe I'll leave it with the stock configuaration after all.
Only complaint is a slight hesitation just off-idle. I need to find out how to set the TPS sensor voltage. I can't seem to figure out what tool I need to adjust this tiny control.
