Need help with new choke!

I just put a new Holley 1850 w/manual choke on my 305 z28 LG69. I'm having problems learning how to use the choke to start the car. I can eventually start the car, but not without flooding it first. I'm new to manual choke, but there appears to be 3 settings for the choke: Full choke, choke open about 1/8in, and open choke. My question is, during a cold start, what sequence should I follow to start the car the quickest and most efficient?

Floor the gas pedal once, pull to full choke, start, as soon as it begins to run back the choke off, keep reducing the choke as the idle speed comes up as the engine warms up.

On real cold days, like below 20° or so, you might have to use another pump shot or 2.

Yep give it fuel and take away the air. Even FI cars do it but you just dont know about it.
