what went wrong
whats up everyone, allright i was doing a small mod on my q jet that I found in the tech section on this board. Its the one that tells u how to adjust your av tension on your carb. My problem is that i followed the steps correctly but when I was turning the adjusting screw i started off turning it clockwise instead of counter. now my av flaps dont have any tension on them and remain half way open. I tryed to turn the adjusting screw both ways now but its not putting any tension on the flaps. I think its an easy fix but not sure. any advice would help.

You need to turn it clockwise to put tension on the AV. Sounds like you loosened the set screw without holding the adjustment and it unsprung on you.
Or, did you just crank & crank on it clockwise? If so, you may have broken the tension spring.

WHEN I WAS TURNING THE SET SCREW CLOCKWISE I THINK I TURNED IT ABOUT 3 FULL ROTATIONS . I NOTICE THE AV FLAPS WHERE NOT OPENING SO I TURNED IT THE OTHER DIRECTION. THEY OPEN UP THEN I STARTED TO TURN THE THE SET SCREW CLOCKWISE TO CLOSE THEM BUT THIS IS WHERE MY PROBLEM BEGAN. IT DIDNT PUT TENSION ON THE AV FLAPS NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I TURNED IT. YOU SAID I COULD HAVE BROKEN THE TENSION SPRING, IF SO HOW DO YOU FIX THAT AND HOW MUCH WORK DOES THAT REQUIRE. ONE MORE THING WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY HOLDING THE ADJUSTMENT IT DIDNT SAY ANY THING ABOUT THAT. I WORK ON MY CAR ALOT BUT JUST DONT KNOW CRAP ABOUT CARBS.

The set screw is the small screw that faces downward. It holds the adjustment in place. Older ones used an Allen screw, some later ones require a Torx wrench.
The adjustment is the slotted shaft that faces to the side (the one you can see looking at the carb from the passenger side). It takes a small flat tip screwdriver to adjust it. I assume this is what you turned clockwise after loosening the set screw. It should have felt like it was getting "tighter" as you turned it clockwise. Note that the Tech Article says to turn it counterclockwise first.
The tension spring may be broken if you turned it too much too tight. Or, it may have come unhooked from the adjustment tang. I've never had one come off or break, so I'm outside my experience base here.
