help!!! car wont start, carb prob.

I just swapped out a 305 for another 305 and have everything together. But the only way I can get it to start is if I pour gas down into the carburator. It wont start any other way, and doesnt run after the gas we pour in runs out. There is a clicking noise on my friends carb when he turns his key to start it, but mine doesnt do that. Any input would be great.

IS the accellerator pump dumping fuel when you press the throttle? You may not even be getting fuel to the carb. Plugged filter,no pump operation, etc.

The clicking noise on your friend's carburetor is the solenoid plunger. When your carburetor does not make this noise when you set the key to "on," it probably means that the plunger is stuck in the down position.

However, I am not sure if that is related to the fuel problem. It seems as if fuel should still be reaching the carb even if the plunger is stuck.
