Hey guys,

I plugged most the vacum leaks on carb rochester quadjet e4me The previous owner had no air cleaner hose hooked. A little hose on air cleaner assembly which part carb does this go into? Also the chrome ones they sell at pep boys have no hose on them so I'm assuming hose isnt really important??

 

Depends upon your defination of "important".

The vacuum hose on the air cleaner is part of what is commonly referred to as the "thermovac" system. It operates a flap on the snorkel to bring warm air up from around the exhaust manifold when the engine is cold, and opens when the engine gets warmer to allow cooler air in. It is especially helpful in reducing that off-idle flat spot, so common with q-jet carbs.

The vacuum line is connected to the "T" fitting on the top front passenger side corner of the carb.

 

thanks for your reply.. As you stated the hose going from manifold to carb any ideas where i can get this? I been to pep boys,autozone, abc etc none them have it that fits my car. Guy at autozone told me they stretch to fit all i bought one tried it just doesnt reach. I bought another to try it not long enough to reach from passenger side manifold to snorkel area.
