friends problem with his holley
hey guys my friend just finished his motor swap to a 350 but we dont no whats up with his holley, the only way to get the rpms to normal/driveable in drive is if the rpms in park are set at like 1400.
when we set rpms to were they should be while the car is in park as soon as he puts it in drive the rpms drop to low and car dies out, he tryed adjusting the carb so many time and i hunted in the holley manual for answers but the problem continues. so the only way he drive the car is if he sets the rpms at like 1400 in park so when he puts it in gear the rpms drop to like 700-800 and she drive fine with no bogs or problems other then putting her in park.
can u guys tell us whats up with this problem??? how do we fix it?? would it be because a vacuum leak? what should we look for/do????

check the ignition timing...
make sure you have at least 16 degrees of timing when your in gear at idle otherwise it will be unhappy..
also check for vacuum leaks.

I'd first say vaccum leaks, readjust the idle mixture settings, how big of a cam does he have, if it's a thumper he needs a loose stall and the higher idle, I have mine set @1200 in park and it drops to 800 in drive. I was having the same problem with it dieing when I first put it in gear when I threw the 950HP on and I gave up adjusting the idle mixture screws, had a buddy come over and redo it and it worked like a champ.
