help please adjusting rochester quadjet

Like name says im going inane with this. I just got this carb got tired of 10 miles to gallon so bought a reman rochester computer controled quadjet. I hooked eevrything up right now the rmp's are going at 2,000 i tried lowering it with flat head scred driver on top carb then it runs rough and still doesnt stay steady. When i drop it into drive or reverse hold brake it like peels out however if i hold foot on brake in drive it will idle perfect at 1,000 rpm.. It ran great at first but had lil leak from fule line then i tightened fuel line to filter area now all hell, any help? Soo much for pre adujsting carburator as they said

It sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Before you do anything, double check to see if you're Carb's gasket is on backwards (meaning, make sure the secondary side isn't sitting on top of the primary side). If the gasket is on right, and providing the ECM is not throwing out any codes, you definitely need to check for vacuum leakage with a proper gauge.

Those CC-Carbs are already 'pre-set', and capped off, so I doubt it's you're idle mixture. But you'll know for sure though by utilizing a vacuum gauge.....

Thanks for your imput, its sunday so ill have try dealership tommorw as noone has control vac and i have leak out of mine which hoses from carb go to could be one the problems.,whatever that screw I adjusted on top carb with flat head i should have just left that alone tried looking for leaks first. Will plugging vacum lines work? (vac caps)I seen some at pep boys figured would give shot in morning. What would be considered a good idle in the 800-1000 range correct?

Did you check the fast idle or choke? My choke started crapping out on me, so I got the fast idle turned down really low, almost off. It would idle at 2k and stay there and drop to maybe 1k when I put it in drive. My brakes didn't like that high idle. One of my calipers even locked up on me (scorched the hell out of that rotor. I got the new choke thermostat and everything was cool.
