tuning for boost
tuning for boost
i have a 305, edelbrock 600 cfm carb, edelbrock performer intake, stock cam for now, turbo manifolds and a single gn turbo, i'm hoping to run about 6 psi of boost but i have no idea how to tune the carb to run with boost. i built a box for the carb to sit in. i will be using a boost referenced regualtor to raise fuel pressure with boost. any tips or womewhere to start?

I don't know much about it, but one thing you'll have to do if you're pressurizing the entire carb is replace the hollow brass floats with nitrophyl ones that won't collapse under pressure.

A wise investment would be some sort of boost retard ignition. MSD and Crane both make what you want. Detonation is your biggest enemy.
What compression ratio will you be running? What pistons? Don't get greedy with boost unless you have some good forged pistons in there.
its a stock rebuild 305 with about 5,000 miles on it. its a tbi motor right now but i'm swapping over to a carb. will i be able to get away with just retarding my base timing a little bit without usinmg a boost retard unit? like if i just retard the timing a little to begin with? i will run about 6 pounds of boost

Retarding the base timing is a crutch. Will kill the bottom end and increase turbo lag...although you shouldn't have much lag with stock compression pistons only 6 lbs of boost. Much better to run a proper curve...limiting the total timing as RPM rises and boost builds. Only way to do this is with a Boost retard system.
What are you going to run for a distributor? Is it the Stock Electronic Advance unit? Can you keep the knock sensor?
