tpi to car bswappers whatca think?

i did a few searchs and didn't get what i was looking for.

ok lets supose i want to go w/ a carb over my tpi setup for a few reasons,
#1 tpi parts are alot of money
#2 tpi has no power in upper rpm ranges
#3 i can't find anybody remotly close to burn me a prom.

so i've been thinking about getting a new motor. a crate 350. like the GM 330ho or the Recon 350hp motor.
what would i need to buy(new trans too)
-carb
-crate motor
-new th700r4
-converter and flex plate
-distubter and wires and plugs

a few questions i have that you guys might be able to answer.
#1- Can wire a switch to my fans to turn them on and off would this be ok?
#2- stock fuel pump
#3- VATS what do i do with it?
#4- my alternator and power steering, can i keep my currnet accessories

Why would you need a new crate or recon motor? Anyway, to the questions:

1.) If you run a flex fan off the water pump, you dont need the electric fans at all. You would need the pusher style. But yes, they can be wired to a toggle switch. I have a pusher wired up like that as well as a flex.

2.) Yup, just get a Mallory #4309 pressure regulator. It has a 3-port return style setup. It has 5 ports. The return goes off the bottom, the inlet and line to carb go to 2 of the 4 on the body. the rest are capped off or a pressure gauge fitting. However, the TBI pump is better suited for the carb conversion.

3.) Do a search, there are many posts about VATS disable.

4.) Yes, you can keep all your accessories. Both carb and TPI use the same mounting bolts in the front of the head.

On your shopping list, dont forget the intake manifold. And if you dont have headers/good exhaust, now is a good time to upgrade.

The parts to fix the TPI and PROM burning equipment would run only slightly more (if at all) than buying new carb conversion parts. Then you talk about a new engine and transmission, one of the engines being a "special configuration" that costs even more to use, so funds can't really be the issue.

The best route is usually to work with what you've got. EFI beats carb in daily driver effeciency and emissions hands down every time. The only ones who will argue with that are those that don't want to spend the time to learn how EFI works and just default to old school. I will make an exception for a race-only set-up, but even then EFI has some advantages in certain areas.

Just unplug the sensors to the TPI and pull it off. Next either cut or just put out of the way, the connectors. Bolt on the carb manifold, carb, drop in the non-CC distributor, hook the thick pink wire that goes to your coil now, to the BAT terminal of the non-CC dist, cut the fuel lines at the rubber part where it goes form the chassis to the motor and put the mallory regulator on there and mount it to the chassis. Run a fuel line to the carb from the reg.. I recommoend changing to a TBI pump but I hear it is not nessesary in some cases, I changed though. Turn your key and set your timing and you are off! My accessories all work fine, the VATS still disables the starter if you don't have the key with the pellet. All the accessories are on separate circuits than the computer controls for the engine. The only things that will no longer work is your cruise and your TC will not lock any more. Your speedo and everythign else should be fine. I did this on my 90 L98.

EDIT:If you get a chance, pull that peanut cam while you are at it and drop in the LT4 HOT one, it's an animal!! You now have an endless choice of cams to drop in once you are carbed, NEVER LOOK BACK no matter how much 1BAD91Z says that TPI is worth it, LOL.

I'm pricing out all the parts, and i will need a new tranny because my tranny is slipping now and at wot is not shifting correct. so thats why i said a new trans. so i'm only looking at a motor and tranny and everything to make them run.

so what do you recommend that i put in my car, goal is a high 12 sec slip all day. funds are an issue and streetablity. i'm just loking at my options
