ya I recently cleaned up my 1405 carb (600cfm edelbrock).
Just take the top plate off, and get all of the dirt out of the vacuum ports and all the debris and junk from the bottom of the fuel bowls left behind by dirty fuel.
Take some carb cleaner or solvent and wet a clean rag that doesnt shed and clean everything back to its shiny condition.
Make sure that when you take the top plate off, you dont rip the gasket or if you are rebuilding it edelbrock has you covered for gaskets. try to take something like an ear swab and get into all of the small places where dirt accumulates.

For the major oxidation you can clean that up later when it is on your manifold, just spray carb cleaner while its running or whatever instructions say.
