What is this guys?

Hey guys..I want to remove my passanger valve cover to change the gasket but this is in the way. I need to remove it. What is it and is there any danger it taking it off and then puting it back on?

Axle/Gears: Currie 9", 4.56 gears
You'll just have to get an EGR gasket at the parts store when you go put it back on.

Supposedly without EGR it can do some kind of damage to something. I can't remember what everyone was saying about it. Obviously I'm not that worried since my intake doesn't have a place for a EGR valve....
