help my lil 305 :(
ok guys my 305 isnt running to great right now and i need some help so here goes
ok for some reason when i would kick it down (wot) it would sputter and was sluggish on power then i took it to a guy and he replaced the spring on the choke and tuned it up but it was still doing it then we noticed that the air filter lid was upside down so we fliped it and put it on normal and it wasnt sputtering. but it still seems like its struggling for power.
anybody know what the prob is????

Im assuming you have the 305 LG4. Does it feel like youre bogging out? With the tune up, its possible that the secondaries are opening up to soon and feeding your engine more fuel than it needs. Other than that, the LG4 is not known to be a serious power maker in its stock form.
Whens the last time it got a tune up?

not sure when the tune up was prob like a month ago and it feels like the engine is making more noise than power when i kick it down at about 20mph it seems like it hesitates and dosent get its power intill it gets moving around 45mph. also if this helps the check engine light came on the other day but it kept going off and on and hasnt come on since. about the engine im not sure what it is (not familliar with 305's) but the guy i bought it off said it was a H.O ill check today and see if i can see a badge

Give us the 8th character of the VIN for a start.
Also, does the air cleaner have one snorkel, or two?
There are other clues, but those are the easiest.

ok the 8th letter of the vin is H and it had one snorkel but has the holes for two but i replaced it with a edelbrock air filter also when i was looking at my fuse box cuz i thought a fuse came loose i notice that it says tbi inj 1 and tbi inj 2 so im thinkin that the car was once throttle body and the guy turned it into a carb

"H" is LG4, computer controlled q-jet 305 (unless Canadian-delivered car, then wouldn't be computer controlled). The TBI would have been for the 4-cyl engine, or perhaps cross-fire injection (fuse boxes were the same for all models, what was populated depended upon what the car was equiped with).
Hole for 2nd snorkel? Doesn't sound right. Got a digital camera, by any chance? Are you saying you replaced the entire air cleaner assembly, or just the filter element itself?

by holes i mean it has the holes for the screws where the snorkel mounts on the other side and i replaced the entire snorkel assembly with a 14" chrome edelbrock air filter assembly

The LG4 did not come with a dual snorkel air cleaner. Sound like someone tried to fab one up and decided to leave it unfinished for some reason or another.

Sounds like something isn't quite right with the secondaries. Possibilities include the AV opening too soon (the choke pull-off helps control this), or not opening properly (gummed up, etc.).
The ignition also needs to be up to snuff before you can expect the carb to be able to "work" properly. Timing has to be set properly. If you don't know the state of plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, consider a major tune-up.
