Need to be rebuilt?

Hey, I just got a question, and I know alot of the answers might turn out to be more opinion than anything, but I'll ask anyway.

Q: How long can a carb sit unused before Its necessary to rebuild it? I just recently bought a Holley 3310 (750cfm, vac secondaries) and I don't know if it needs to be rebuilt. I haven't actually seen it in person yet, because its in shipping right now, but I want to get a rebuild kit before it gets here just incase I need to rebuild it.

But how can I tell if it needs to be rebuilt without actually bolting it up and seeing if it work right?

How long can a carb sit before needing to be rebuilt?

If properly prepped, a carb can sit on the shelf for a long, long time.

If gas is left in it, it decomposes and attacks the polymers, sometimes the metal itself; can happen in as little as a year.

Best bet is to get a kit and go through it.
