ECM and Timing
Why is it that when you disconnect the 4 wire connector on the distributor to set the timing, the car runs so bad during that period of time. What is the ECM doing to make the car run better when it is plugged in.

Feedback.
With the ECM disconnected, it's in "limp home mode". When connected, it's using information provided by the engine to adjust as it goes.
Mine doesn't run so bad when disconnected, though. Some of it has to do with the baseline adjustments of the carb.
