Should I get a DP or an carter?

Ok I am getting a new carb. I have a 670cfm street avenger now that I am either gonna set aside or sell to a buddy of mine.

I haven't had good luck with it. Main complain is the electric choke. It never has worked right. Base plate gasket leaked like crazy...fixed that...fuel bowl gaskets leaked...fixed that. Now my throttle shaft is leaking.

I would like to get away from electric chokes and even possibly vacuum secondaries. That is why I am looking into the double pumpers.

I thought about getting a 650dp. I figure that would work ok now and really well once I get the vortec heads. I kinda want to stay holley since I have a complete jet kit.

So with the setup in sig how would a dp do? BTW its an auto which supposedly is bad for a dp...not sure tho.

Automatic tranny doesn't preclude using a DP. You just need to size it so it doesn't bog at the minimum RPMs (stall speed) at which you go WOT. Per http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/TechSer...nfo/P225A.html , a 650 would be fine on a 350 to pretty low RPMs.

A Carter isn't mechanical secondaries.

Think I could get a 650 tuned in pretty good? It took awhile and some down jetting but I got my 670 tuned in well. I figure a 650 dp won't be any worse.

They aren't that hard to tune up. Understand what each circuit/mechanism does, adjust what is needed.

Yes, you can tune your holley, everyone else does. Personally, if it were me, I would put the edelbrock on. But hey, life is full of choices based on preference.

I can tune holleys...it took me a lot of trial and error but I figured it out. I have just had crappy luck with the street avenger...seems like a lot of people do though.
