4160 linkage ???
I have a 4160 600 holley # 80457-2 that I will soon be tuning I have been doing some research and understand most of it the only thing I havent been able to figure out is the linkage directly behind the throttle linkage?? Doesnt seem to be connected to anything? When you advance the throttle it follows, it also follows when you put throttle back to idle position. But you can also move it seperately from the throttle. Any insight into this would be appreciated. The car isnt running yet I still have a few odds and ends to connect.

Just a guess but are you talking about the link that stops the vacumn secondaries opening before the primaries?

Im not sure? Its not the acc.pump linkage, its not the throttle linkage, There isnt any spring tension on it it just seems to follow the throttle linkage but with no effort at all you can move it seperately from the throttle linkage. I hate to sound stupid about this i just am a holley newbie. I thought I would see what everyone else is talking about
I have been running an edelbrock for about 2-3 years and a cross fire before that. So it was time to try one

Any chance of a picture? Also the holley web site has exploded drawings of most carbs with legends as to what each bit is.

I know what you're talking about, it doesn't show on their exploded view http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/TechSer.../f4150-60.html , and I have no clue what it's for.

five7kid: so I am not crazy? I had asked a bunch of my friends about it and nobody had a clue.
iroc-si: havent invested in a digital camera yet
That linkage doesnt seem to do anything? you can freely move it back and forth while running and nothing changes????? I was really confused when I saw the exploded view and it isnt there.

When the engine isn't running, and without applying any throttle, can you open the vacumn secondaries by hand, does the linkage in question stop them opening fully?

Maybe. I'm not familiar with that setup, though.
I was thinking cruise control. But again, I haven't seen anything that indicates what it's for.
Mine is in the garage attic. If I can remember, I'll try to pull it down tonight and get a photo of it.

nope this linkage mounts around the same shaft that the throttle is on btw the throttle and the carb. it sticks straight up, is alot smaller than the throttle but is about as tall
As for the ford kickdown????????Not familiar with what that looks like.
I really appreciate all of the responses. The car is running now I have about 120 miles on it so far. Runs very well, just curious what that linkage is? The real stumper is that with the car running you can move this linkage back and forth and it doesnt change anything

That does sound like a Ford kickdown. My 3310 has the same thing on it (its right behind the throttle lever right?).
It just sits there on mine, does nothing, doesnt get in the way.
