Need new carb

Hey, I got a Rochester 450 carb right now for my 305 H.O. and I want to buy either an Eldelbrock (Since i drive the car a lot and don't only race) or Holley.. I'm not really a pro when it comes to carbs, What would you suggest me for a Holley carb? And what does Ford A/T and the Model 4160 means?? Is that only for roadsters? I would like a 600 or 650 CFM. Thanks

go with the edelbrock 1405 or 1406 carb ...depending on if you want manual choke or electric

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/carb_square.html

itll work great for what you want and its very easy to tune and work on ..
alot of guys here will tell you to run a holley ..but for what its worth ive had 4 different edelbrock carbs on 4 different cars and never had a problem out of them ..

Some things aren't adding up.

What's a "Rochester 450 carb"?

In 1987, GM didn't make a 305 HO for 3rd gens. Has something been swapped in?

With a manual transmission, you're a little better off with a double pumper style carb. The only choices you have there are Holley and Demon.

Don't worry about "Ford A/T". It won't affect you.

Model 4160 is a Holley designation for their vacuum secondary, with secondary metering plate rather than replaceable jets carbs. It's their most common seller. However, if you follow my advice above, you'll be getting a 4150 model (if you go with Holley).

Or a holley 6210 spreadbore dp 650 cfm Qjet replacement carburetor.Works great on my Z,and I can keep my 305 HO air cleaner. It takes a divorced choke but that is simple stuff.........Good luck with whatever you purchase.

I might just buy Eldelbrock.. But I would like something like the carb I have right now.. Gets more prime has the RPM keeps going up.. The opposite of Edelbrock's.

I haven't had the car for long, I think the engine has been swapped but I'm not 100% sure. I looked for the #'s on the carb on the internet and it said something about a Rochester 450 for 73 Corvette's..
Would this Holley be good..
650 CFM Four Barrel
Model 4175 spread bore
Q-Jet/Thermo-Quad replacement ?

And do I really need to change distributor??
I have an Accel one right now..

Thanks for the help

I you have a vacuum advance style hei and a 73 non cc qjet then you dont need to change your distributor. Youve already been converted from computer control. Or you never had it since its a canadian car.

I would go with an edlebrock 600, my 650 is just a hair too big. other than that, I love it. just keep in mind you will need an adapter or a new manifold to get a squarebore carb to fit.

Please post those numbers. GM hasn't used a 450 4bbl for a very long, long time, certainly well before 1973. I suspect you have a q-jet, which should flow a minimum of 750 CFM.

With a 305 or the typical stock 350, you don't need any more carb than that.
