Carb Selection w/ an auto tranny?
I'm looking at switching my TBI setup to a carburetor. I was shopping on Ebay for a used carburetor that I could rebuild (preferably a Holley). I noticed that some of the Holley labels state specifically that I am not to use certain Holley carbs w/ an automatic tranny. I've got a freshly rebuilt 700r4 w/ a stepped up torque converter (can't think of the stall speed right now). Why is it that you can't use some carbs w/ auto trannys? What do I need to do for the lockup converter if I want it to kick in and out on its own instead of using the switch setup that I've seen on the site. Also, I'm thinking of getting a 750 carb for this setup, does this sound right?
My setup:
355 Chevy block
Trick Flow 64 cc aluminum heads
Edelbrock performer RPM manifold
1.6 full roller rockers
approximate 10.5:1 compression
3.73 rear axle
700r4 tranny w/ (I think) an additional 500 rpm of stall (could be 1000)
Thanks for the help,
Mike

Yoou can use whatever carb you want with any transmission, with the 700r4 you just have to do what you gotta do so the detent cable can operate properly. I ran A Holley 600VS, 600DP, 750VS, 750DP, and 830DP when I had my 700r4 back in the day.
I know sombody makes a convertor lock up switch you can install.

Seeing your setup you might want to go with atleast a 750 cfm carb.

It's discussed often on the Tranny forum, you might want to do a search over there (use "tv*" as your search object).

Sorry it took so long to respond, I was in Vegas... what a tough reason to not respond.
Those quarter mile times are not up to date. I haven't updated my profile in a long time. Those times had reflected the 355 install, but not the new cylinder heads, intake, modified chip, etc. I don't really expect to get a lot more out of it with the 500cfm throttle body.
Thanks,
Mike
