What are you guys doing about the tank pick up when you switch from TPI to Carb and use an external pump?

That doesn't really answer the mail.
Choices are:
1) Leave the in-tank and hope it doesn't restrict flow too severely.
2) Drop tank, replace pick-up with a carb'd type from the junk yard.
3) Drop tank, remove pump from pick-up, replace with a length of tubing. I don't know what you do about the pick-up screen with that scenario, but you might be able to use a carb'd type. I've never investigated - the thought just came to mind. I know the '57 uses a slip-type screen that goes over a plain piece of tubing, it may be adaptable to a 3rd gen application.

Thanks for that. I think I'm going to use a piece of hose in place of the pump. I have a nice in-line aeromotive filter so I think that will eliminate the need for an in tank screen.

The pick-up screen protects the pump. The filter protects the carb.
I've got an inline filter that'll be before the pump and also a smaller filter right before the carb.

I plan on pulling my pump soon. I am going to use a compression fitting and steel tubing to take place of the pump.
Then run a holley blue. I need some gas...I think nitrous is in the works.

I did a search on here and found out that you can use the return line, so thats what I did. It seems to work fine for me with a mechanical pump

On mine i ran the hose down in place of the pump then i bought a little cheap 2 dollar fuel filter and put it between the tank and the pump then i have another one right before the carb and it holds steady pressure and has no troubles. Also i got rid of my evap canistor and plugged the line. Then on the tank is a emergency valve incase to much pressure builds in the tank it opens. I replaced that with a little open element to vent the tank. I used to just have the line plugged and i could always smell fuel now with this setup i never smell any.
I did the same, dropped the tank, pulled off the electic pump and replaced it with rubber hose. Works flawlessly with my Holley mechanical pump.
