problems with idle
I've just changed my intake manifold and carb on my 305 lg4. My intake is a edelbrock performer and my carb is holley 600cfm. The carb is freshly rebuilt. The problem is i cant get my car idling right. Its running way too rich smoke is coming from the back. Now my question for you is first: is the carb to big for my stock lg4, second: could the jets on the carb been changed and are too big (hope this makes sence to you) if this is a possibility how can i check
help me out
thanks

I see you are from Canada, which means that your car is not computer controlled, right? If so, before you try re-jetting, make sure the carb is tuned properly. Hook up a vaccum guage to manifold vaccum, set idle speed at about 600 and tune from there. I think(correct me if I'm wrong) that the specs for tuning the 305 is somewhere around 15-20 @ 700 RPMs or somewhere around there. If you can get close to that, you should be idling alot better. If you can't solve the problem by tuning, then take a look at jet sizes.

Before you worry about the jets, make sure that the carburator is tuned properly and you have good vaccum at idle, then try the jets.
