diesel in the fuel!
hey guys,i need help, my car started to act weird and lousy, almost dies, idle in 300-350 rpm range, and feels like if it was running on 7 cylinders, first i thought it was a dirty needle and seat, but i found out that the fuel in my area was accidentaly mixed with DIESEL!
if this turns out to be the problem, can i get away with just draining the tank out of fuel or do i need to do any special cleansing of the fuel lines?
my car has a non cc quadrajet.

You should just have to flush the whole system. From what I;ve read and heard, diesel in a gasoline engine will not permantly damage your motor. The other way around, and well watch out
I would get compensation from the station, go to a shop, and get them to service and flush the whole system. It must have been quite a bit of diesel mixed in. You could do this work yourself, but incase future problems happen down the road you can show proof that you had it professionally serviced.

i highly doubt the gas station would be willing to pay the repairs, but i doesn't hurt to try!

I get this to do at least twice a week, we have so many diesel cars here.
Just flush everything you can, the tank, drain the carb, blow the fuel line out, and fill the tank with petrol.
Problems arise with putting petrol in diesels, on some brand new cars it can damage the diesel pump.
You shouldnt have any problems, cept aq bit of white smoke for a short time as the diesel blows through.
Good luck getting them to pay tho.

The diesel doesn't hurt anything. As stated, it may smoke a bit more, and may carbon-up the plugs (short-term effect).
How much diesel got in the gasoline? If it was something like one gallon of diesel to 10 of gas, it shouldn't cause any problem at all. If the other way around, it needs to be diluted.
Unless it won't start, I wouldn't bother flushing it out. It really depends upon the amount of diesel that got into the gas, though.
Can we assume you don't have a cat in the exhaust?

Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes

In fact, in days gone by, some of the "carb tune-up" you could buy to add to your gas, was nothing but diesel fuel.
Just put up with it for a bit, and fill the tank with known good gas as it drains down. Then when it gets to a tolerable point, run the tank near dry to get rid of the last of it, and fill it up.
No special cleaning, or any of that, is necessary. No draining, blowing, flushing, etc.
Now if it was the whole tank full of diesel, it would be a different matter; because then the engine wouldn't run. But as long as it runs, it'll be fine.

i don't know the diesel-gas ratio, but it is behaving so bad is not driveable, black smoke, shaking, erratic idle...
so far i changed the plugs, because they were totally covered in black sooth, and i cleaned the seat and needle of the quadrajet just in case.
i do suspect of that to be the cause because the car was behaving great before putting gasoline in it,and i was not the only affected, guys with newer cars were having more severe troubles all around the city.
tomorrow i will run clean gas from a safe place and see if it takes care of the issue
yep, you're correct,no cat in the exhaust, actually,no emissions stuff whatsover, non cc car.
once again, thanks to all who took the time to give me advice!
