Should I get this?
Probably not the right section, but I haven't seen a general discussion section. My friend found an '87 trans am with the lg4 for $700. The only thing it needs, he says, is to have a fender painted. I was just wondering if it's worth it, or if I should save more, and wait for a tpi system. I've never had a carbed car, so I know next to nothing about them. Some input from the more experienced guys would be awesome. Thanks

Nothing wrong with a carb. If the body's straight, the motor runs, and rust is at a min, might be something to consider.

I'm just not too sure about it. It's almost scary, thinking that my v6 camaro might have more tuning potential than the trans am. I just want to make sure I'm not getting myself into a car that needs a lot of money to go fast

The LG4 will actually have more tuning capability than the fuel injected motors. It will accept mods without requiring prom burning. You can do a search for lg4 upgrades, there's tons of stuff out there.
Like any older system, you'll have to commit and learn how it works and how to fix it right to get the most out of it.

The LG4 I once had in my 85 IROC was modded: cam, intake, carb tweaks, complete L69 air box and exhaust, to include a high-flow cat, etc. I always thought that it was the equal of the HO cars, and while it ran very well considering, I wouldn't put the money/time into it if I had the chance to do it all over again. Even modded, it wouldn't come close to the my 350 HO Deluxe, which is a beast in comparison.

Like James C, my 87 lg4 camaro now has a vortec headed 350. Still use the lg4 induction and computer though.

How many Miles on the odometer? I always look, and put my finger, into the oil fill hole to see/feel how much sluggish is in there. It is just one indicator of how well the engine was maintained.

I'm not sure how many miles are on the car, but it's a teenager selling it- so I'm not too sure how it was driven. I decided just to call it off. It wasn't the car that I've wanted, and to get it would just be a let down for me. So, for now, I'm just going to put the money into my camaro. Thanks for all of your input
