CC Quadrajet work without computer?

I have a 1987 305 4 barrel Camaro. I picked up a working computer controlled quadrajet off ebay. Will it work without the electrical hook ups? I want to wire the car up like an older non-cc model.

Not really. It'll be running rich all the time.

Transmission: Sometimes

ive had good luck putting those Electronic Q-Jets on my 70's camaros. ran real good

No it won't run right at all. The problem is, ALL of the carb's metering changes to adjust for load and temperature and vacuum and whatnot, are electronically controlled. Without the control, it will pretty much NEVER be exactly right for whatever its current operating conditions are.

I have no idea why it is that people just want to hack all the wiring off their cars. It's pretty much pointless. There's 2 ways to do just about anything: the right way, and ..... You'd be alot better off to do it right than that other way.

If you just HAVE TO hack it all off for some reason, get a non-computerized carb of some sort. You'll also need a distributor with non-computer controls, since the one that comes with the CC carb is also controlled by the computer. If you run it with no computer, it will ALWAYS be at its base timing, which might be 45 degrees or more wrong for what the engine wants.

I ran a cc q-jet and cc-carb for a little while with nothing plugged in. Got about 4mpg and blew black smoke and bucked and chugged around. Didn't do it for long, just long enough to realize that yes, there is such a thing as a computer controlled carb, and yes, they need to be hooked up and working.

So I went non cc q-jet and non cc distributor.
